Tree Canada Announces Recipient of Craig Huff Urban Forest Memorial Bursary
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 07/03/12 -- Tree Canada is proud to announce Stephen Cushing as the recipient of the 2012 Craig Huff Urban Forest Memorial Bursary, a grant which enables a post secondary school Canadian student to attend the Canadian Urban Forest Conference. This year marks the 10th such conference, running from October 2-4 in London, Ontario - for further information please visit .
From 10 applicants, Cushing stood out as an inspiring example of dedication to urban forestry. Cushing is a Masters of Environmental Studies student at Dalhousie University and also holds a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor's degree in environmental horticulture from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College.
Cushing came to Dalhousie early to begin developing an urban forest master plan for the university. He demonstrated significant knowledge of tree species selection and understands the important role of urban forests in contemporary Canadian society.
"We are glad to be able to offer this bursary to such a deserving student," says Tree Canada President Michael Rosen. "Not only can he learn extensively from the urban forest conference - he can take that knowledge home with him and use it in a real urban forestry project. It's wonderful to see that kind of initiative."
The bursary is named for Craig Huff, the forester for the City of Ottawa who died prematurely in 2008. He was well-known for being a great supporter of Tree Canada and an innovator in the management of urban forests.
