VHA Inc. Media Statement: Supreme Court Upholds the Affordable Care Act
(firmenpresse) - IRVING, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 06/28/12 -- Today, the Supreme Court announced its historic decision upholding the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate while invalidating aspects of the Medicaid expansion.
The good news is that the decision eliminates the uncertainty surrounding the constitutionality of the Act, which unquestionably has served as a catalyst for important change in the industry.
However, the political and fiscal challenges facing the health care industry will continue. This is particularly true given the uncertainty about how Congress and the Administration may choose to address the Court's concerns about the proposed Medicaid expansion, and the fiscal impact that resolution may have on hospitals and the patients they serve in states that choose not to participate in the expansion.
Across the nation, VHA's members are working diligently to deliver higher quality, more accessible, and more affordable health care. VHA supports these three objectives and will continue working with our members to create health care's necessary future state -- one in which hospitals and health systems are rewarded for maintaining and improving health and wellness as well as for treating and curing illness.
