Service Canada Modernizes Administrative Functions
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/27/12 -- The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development today provided an update on initiatives to modernize and improve Service Canada operations.
"More than ever before, Canadians expect us to deliver high quality services that are timely and accessible," said Minister Finley. "Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and Service Canada are working hard to ensure that all programs, services and operations are as effective and efficient as they can possibly be in serving Canadians."
In August 2011, Service Canada announced its plan to consolidate smaller and more costly Employment Insurance (EI) processing sites into larger regional hubs. Moving forward with the transformation agenda, Service Canada will be consolidating a range of other back-office processing and administrative functions across the country. This is in parallel with a continued increase in the use of automation and online services, reducing the need for paper-based, manual processes by staff.
"Our Government is committed to maintaining service to Canadians while we undertake this important transformation to strengthen our operations and lower our costs," said Minister Finley. "Canadians expect their hard-earned tax dollars to be used as effectively and efficiently as possible. We strive to provide sustainable service that Canadians can depend on, while meeting current and future demands."

Backgrounder
Service Canada is undertaking a significant transformation to meet the expectations of Canadians and provide effective and efficient services. The goal, consistent with the Service Canada mission, is to provide secure, knowledgeable, seamless, and personalized service to Canadians.
The Service Canada transformation agenda is an opportunity to optimize the location, size and functions of the department's workforce and worksites where day-to-day operations are performed across Canada. This will allow Service Canada to build larger more efficient regional hubs that will help use resources in the best way possible.
By April 1, 2014, the administration of Grants and Contributions will take place in 30 communities rather than 97 and Integrity services will operate in 65 communities rather than 122.
The Government has committed to delivering service to Canadians in a way that is modern, efficient and focused and uses tax dollars effectively.
