Canada's Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime marks National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/23/12 -- Canada's Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime, Sue O'Sullivan, released today the following statement to mark the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism:
"Today is a day dedicated to remember the victims and those who have lost loved ones at home and abroad due to acts of terrorism," said Ms. O'Sullivan. "Terrorism knows no borders and its effects can last for generations. This is a solemn day; let us stand together to ensure that those who have lost their lives to senseless acts of violence are not forgotten and that their memories are kept alive. "
The National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism was first observed on June 23, 2005, in memory of those who have lost their lives through acts of terror in Canada and around the world. The day was chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the Air India Flight 182 tragedy, which occurred on June 23, 1985.
The Office of the Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime helps victims to address their needs, promotes their interests and makes recommendations to the federal government on issues that negatively impact victims. For more information, please visit:
