The was established in 2007. The primary goals of the ABPh designation were to: Improve the standards of medical practitioners and the quality of patient care related to the treatment of venous disease (varicose vein treatment). Standards were established for training and education, Award Certification, ongoing maintenance and continuing education requirements. A registry of physician specialists in the practice of Phlebology was established.
