(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/20/12 -- The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, today signed a revised Agreement on Social Security between Canada and Norway. The Agreement was also signed by Her Excellency Else Berit Eikeland, Norway's Ambassador to Canada, in Ottawa.

"Our government is committed to ensuring retirement security for Canadians whether here or abroad, and I am pleased that we are announcing increased benefits to both Canadians and Norwegians," said Minister Finley. "This Agreement represents yet another step forward in strengthening the relationship and cooperation between our two countries."

As a result of the Agreement, more than 1 000 Canadian residents of Norwegian descent will receive an increased pension from Norway.

The Agreement between Canada and Norway will enter into force once both countries have completed the approval procedures specified in their respective legislation. To date, Canada has concluded 54 international social security agreements, 53 of which are in force.

An Agreement between Canada and Norway first came into force in 1990. The revised social security agreement will result in added benefits to both countries.
