ID: 1125832

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/19/12 -- Rideau Hall, the official residence of the governor general, will soon display in its Ballroom artworks from Aboriginal artists Carl Beam, George Clutesi, Alex Janvier and Daphne Odjig. Androgyny-by the late Ojibway artist Norval Morrisseau (1931-2007)-an important work that is a testimony to the richness of Aboriginal culture and traditions, with its beautiful colours and its profound symbolism, has been on display in the Ballroom since September 18, 2008.

Androgyny has been seen by hundreds of thousands of guests and visitors to Rideau Hall. This masterpiece was on loan from Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada until May 2011. Its stay was extended for an additional year.

The last official event where invited guests will have the chance to enjoy viewing the painting at Rideau Hall will be on June 20, 2012, the eve of National Aboriginal Day, as Rideau Hall plays host to the APTN's Celebrating our Peoples Tour concert, with performances by Aboriginal artists.

About the works by Carl Beam, George Clutesi, Alex Janvier and Daphne Odjig

As the new painting of Her Majesty The Queen will soon be on display on the North wall of the Ballroom, the dialogue between First Nations and the Crown will continue at Rideau Hall as Aboriginal art by Carl Beam, George Clutesi, Alex Janvier and Daphne Odjig will be featured on the South wall. Grouped together for the first time, these artworks will continue to highlight the diversity and richness of Canada's Aboriginal art. These loans are possible through a partnership with the Indian and Inuit Art Centre of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada. They will be on display until 2014 for all guests and visitors to the official residence of the governor general in Ottawa.
