BCG's Xavier Mosquet Named One of the Year's Top Consultants
Detroit-Based Auto Expert Who Advised on the Restructuring of GM and Chrysler Wins for Excellence in Client Service

The honorees will be feted tonight at a gala awards dinner at the landmark Essex House in midtown Manhattan.
Mosquet, who also serves as managing director of the firm's Detroit office, is a frequently cited on the auto industry, particularly on electric cars and electric battery technologies, and has consulted to the Department of Energy on its 2050 energy policy. In 2009, he led the team of BCG consultants that advised President Obama's on the restructuring of General Motors and Chrysler, including the establishment of the Chrysler-Fiat alliance. The following year, he advised on GM's $20 billion-plus IPO -- the largest in history.
Mosquet brings more than 20 years of global experience to his work. His clients include leading OEMs and equipment suppliers, both domestic and international, as well as new players from rapidly developing economies. He has supported them in North America, Europe, Japan, China, India, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.
His expertise spans a wide range of strategic, operational, and financial issues. These include restructuring and cost transformation, global manufacturing, sales development in emerging markets, sourcing strategies, the low-cost car market, efficient powertrain strategies, global R&D, market forecasting, and international expansion.
"The problems that today's large multinational corporations face are highly complex and specialized," Mosquet told Consulting in an . "They require enormous willingness to go deep in assessing the underlying issues, often across boundaries of division, functions, and geographies. At the same time, successful implementation of strategies and other solutions should be built on simplicity -- a focus on the bare minimum to save time and resources. Simplicity in communications with the client and with the various stakeholders is also critical."
For his work on the GM and Chrysler restructurings, he received considerable recognition a couple years ago. In June 2010, the Global M&A Network named him "" and issued a number of awards to BCG, including " (Large Markets/Global)," "Chapter 11 Reorganization of the Year ($5 billion plus)," and "Special Situation M&A Deal of the Year ($500 million plus)," for its work on the Chrysler-Fiat alliance. The firm won earlier that year from the M&A Advisor.
Mosquet's approach to consulting is a mix of "intellectual rigor and intense loyalty to the client" and "involves asking the tough questions with the idea that we are all in this together," he told Consulting. Before opening the Detroit office in 2005, Mosquet led BCG's Operations practice in Europe for five years, working out of the firm's Paris office. He also served as chairman of the firm's Global Innovation Committee. He joined BCG in London in 1985.
