Royal Congratulations to the First Two Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Parks Canada Youth Ambassadors
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/13/12 -- Today Canada announced the names of the first ever Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Parks Canada Youth Ambassadors.
The first two ambassadors for the inaugural year of the ten-year gift in honour of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's 2011 Royal Tour to Canada are:
Michael Ciniello from Mississauga, 23 years old, graduate of Western University
Alais Nevert from Montreal, 21 years old, Capilano University.
St. James' Palace, the office of Their Royal Highnesses, issued the following statement of congratulations: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the announced selection of Michael and Alais as the first two youth ambassadors under "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Parks Canada Youth Ambassadors" Program. They recall with great pleasure and fond memories the time they spent last July in Banff National Park and hope that both Michael and Alais will come to an even greater appreciation of the tremendous richness of Canada's magnificent environmental heritage."
This new program offers two young adults between the age of 18-25 a unique opportunity to be youth ambassadors and experience and share with others Canada's greatest national treasures by travelling across Canada connecting with Canadian youth in their schools, communities and at Parks Canada locations.
"Congratulations to Alais and Michael on becoming Canada's first two Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Parks Canada Youth Ambassadors," said the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada. "Through this legacy program, our two Parks Canada youth ambassadors will inspire young Canadians to be active, get outdoors and learn more about their natural and cultural treasures."
Alais and Michael were selected from the candidates who applied for the position through a formal recruitment process for the first two Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Parks Canada Youth Ambassadors in collaboration with Global Vision, a non-profit organization with an established record of engaging and supporting the leadership development of Canadian youth.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the creation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Parks Canada Youth Ambassador program as a gift to commemorate the 2011 Royal Tour to Canada of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in July of 2011 and to mark the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada.
The youth ambassador program is one of a number of initiatives by which Parks Canada is working to connect youth to Canada's natural and cultural heritage. Other programs include My Parks Pass, Xplorers, and broadcast initiatives such as Operation unplugged.
