A Call to Action: Active Play in the Outdoors
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/12/12 -- Highlighted in the May 28th release of the 2012 Active Healthy Kids Canada (AHKC) Report Card, active play is a fundamental part of growing up healthy, but may now be considered extinct.
KidActive and the Child and Nature Alliance of Canada are calling on Canadians to support children's active play in the outdoors. Together, we need to create safe natural environments in all neighbourhoods, and support safe, inspiring opportunities for active outdoor play and a strong connection to nearby nature for every child.
'Nature and the Outdoors' was added as a new indicator in the 2011 AHKC Report Card and still receives an incomplete grade in 2012. We are calling on the Canadian research community to evaluate the impact nature and the outdoors has on children's health so that the Nature and Outdoor Indicator can be evaluated for more than just an incomplete grade in the AHKC Report Card.
We also call on all Canadians to join us on June 15th for Nature Play Day in Canada and help raise the awareness of the fundamental importance of outdoor active play in every neighbourhood.
Nature Play Day is an annual national day of celebrating the joy of outdoor play. We invite all Canadians to find time on June 15th to get outside with their friends, family or colleagues. Register your Nature Play Day plans at for a chance to win great prizes.
