Britain vs. the World: Nation Divided on Where to Holiday This Olympic Year
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 06/08/12 -- Brits are torn between two choices when it comes to their holiday destination in 2012: to stay in the UK or travel abroad.
The government has just launched a new 'staycation' campaign to offer incentives for Brits to holiday at home this Olympic and Jubilee year, with research suggesting that as many as 40 per cent of Brits intend taking a staycation in 2012.(i)
The figures come following a recent Asda Finance(ii) e-survey t which found that 64% of Brits, whether going abroad or staying in the UK, opt for relaxation as the number one 'must-have' requirement of a holiday.(ii)
When it came to reasons for wanting to escape the UK for a holiday many of those surveyed frequently cited as a reason the better weather abroad - a common statement being -'holidays abroad because of the warmer climate and different culture.'
But while the weather was a cause for concern for many, when it came to citing the benefits of a British break, spending quality time with the family was frequently given as a major benefit of having a holiday in the UK.
Clearly Brits are torn between heading abroad and taking a holiday at home this Olympic year. Our research shows that relaxation is the number one requirement for those going on holiday, with beach breaks in second place and countryside getaways third.
City breaks, adventure getaways and nature breaks are well catered for in the UK, while cruise holidays, winter sports destinations and backpacking are typically associated with overseas travel. Obviously if you are going abroad it is important that you consider travel insurance before you go. But if you are staying in the UK, an Annual policy will provide you and your family with cover for any pre-booked trips of two nights or more.

Asda Finance research shows that beach holidays appeal to 62.8%; 46.89% are in favour of a countryside break when booking a holiday. City Breaks appeal to 44.5% of those surveyed; cruises to 25.07%; adventure breaks (i.e. walking, climbing, water sports, etc.) to 13.97%; Green/wildlife breaks to 13.68%; Coach / ferry trips to 13.11%; Ski / Snowboarding to 5.84%; and Backpacking breaks to 3.83% (11.77% expressed another travel requirement).
