The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today joined the families of fallen service men and women for the Last Post Fund Annual Commemorative Ceremony at the National Field of Honour.

"Today's ceremony in memory of Canadian and Allied Veterans is meaningful on many levels, renewing the gratitude we already feel toward these heros," said Minister Blaney. "Those who lie in the National Field of Honour have served our country with pride and conviction in the defence of peace, freedom, democracy and the rule of law. Our Government acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the Last Post Fund which helps to ensure our Veterans receive the dignified funeral and burial they deserve."

More than one hundred Canadian Armed Forces members, various dignitaries, and members of the families of the Veterans buried at the National Field of Honour attended the somber ceremony to remember and honour those who played such an important role at home and abroad.

Founded in 1909, the Last Post Fund is a national, non-profit organization that works with Veterans Affairs Canada to help ensure Veterans with little money and few assets receive a dignified funeral and burial, including a grave marker. The National Field of Honour is the first Canadian cemetery meant solely for service men and women and their immediate relatives.
