Minister of National Defence Statement on the Occasion of Canadian Forces Day 2012
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/03/12 -- The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, today issued the following statement on the occasion of Canadian Forces Day:
"Celebrated every year on the first Sunday of June, Canadian Forces Day is an opportunity for Canadians to recognize Canadian Forces members' tremendous contributions to our nation, both at home and abroad.
In many ways, the Canadian Forces symbolize what unites us as Canadians: our willingness to help those in need, our pride in contributing to global security and stability, and our resolve in protecting Canadian values.
Overseas, our brave men and women continue to actively contribute to the professionalization of the Afghan National Security Forces. In addition to Canada's ongoing contribution to United Nations mandated, NATO efforts in Afghanistan, the Canadian Forces proudly serve Canada's interests on 16 other international missions. And, it was just last year that Canada played a pivotal role in helping the international community protect the people of Libya.
On this day, I extend my most sincere gratitude to all Canadian Forces members and their families for their dedication, professionalism and sacrifice, particularly in these times of change. I encourage all Canadians to recognize and celebrate their Canadian Forces in their own way today."
