Racing returns to the Motor City in GRAND-AM Detroit 200
Audi R8 GRAND-AM teams continue to make improvements
The race will represent the first road course appearance of the R8 in GRAND-AM racing
Racing returns to Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Mich., for the GRAND-AM Detroit 200 after a three year hiatus. The 2.1 mile track includes 14 turns on the challenging Belle Isle race course. Improvements to the course and amenities are expected to attract over 100,000 fans during the race weekend.
The #51 APR Motorsport Audi R8 GRAND-AM will represent Audi Sport customer racing at the GRAND-AM Detroit 200 in what will be the car's first road course appearance. Through upgrades to the aerodynamics package at New Jersey Motorsports Park and continued testing, the APR Motorsport team is poised to unlock the potential of the Audi R8 GRAND-AM race car.
"We know that the R8 is a sleeping giant," said Dr. Jim Norman, race car driver for the #51 APR Motorsport Audi R8 GRAND-AM. "Each race we come a little bit closer to unlocking the potential of the car. APR and Audi are working hard to develop the GRAND-AM spec of the car to make it as competitive as it has proven to be in its LMS specifications. It isn't there yet, but we are hoping that between now and the stretch of races in June we'll be able to make some changes to the car that will help us show what it is truly capable of. We all want to see the Audi running at the front."
