Come and Discover Rideau Hall During the Month of June!
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/31/12 -- Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston invite members of the public to discover Rideau Hall, the governor general's official residence and workplace in Ottawa. Open to the public year-round, Rideau Hall will feature special events and activities during the month of June.
"Sharon and I invite you to bring your family and friends to Rideau Hall, home of the people of Canada," said His Excellency. "Visiting this unique heritage site is like walking through our collective history. It is our hope that the activities planned throughout the summer will give you a chance to enjoy the splendour of the grounds and to discover the residence's beauty."
June will kick off with Doors Open Ottawa 2012 from June 2-3, followed by the 29th edition of the annual CHEO Teddy Bears' Picnic, on Saturday, June 23, and will conclude with the Annual Inspection of the Ceremonial Guard on Monday, June 25.

Throughout the weekend, visit the residence and learn about the history and the role of the governor general. Tour guides will be on location to bring Rideau Hall's history to life. As a special activity this year, the Canadian Wildlife Federation and the National Capital Region Wildlife Festival will be Celebrating Nature in the Capital at Rideau Hall, on Saturday, June 2. All activities are free of charge.

ANNUAL CHEO TEDDY BEARS' PICNIC
June 23, 2012
8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A fun-filled day of family activities awaits you on the grounds of Rideau Hall during the 29th Annual Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Teddy Bears' Picnic. The day will feature continuous stage entertainment, rides and games, as well as a celebrity pancake breakfast. The popular B(i)A(i)S(i)H Tent-Bear Ambulatory Surgical Hospital-will be open for children who wish to bring their teddy bears and other stuffed animals for minor repairs and a visit with the dentist. ANNUAL INSPECTION OF THE CEREMONIAL GUARD

10 a.m.
On June 25, come and join His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, for the pageantry, precision and colour of the Annual Inspection of the Ceremonial Guard, at Rideau Hall.
As of June 26, watch sentries, led by a piper, march to their posts at Sussex Gate and in front of the residence during the Relief of the Sentries.

EXHIBIT: FROM FAR AND WIDE - HONOURING GREAT CANADIANS

Don't miss our current exhibit From Far and Wide - Honouring Great Canadians, located in downtown Ottawa, across from Parliament Hill. The exhibit celebrates Canada's national honours and the extraordinary contributions of Canadians from across the country and from all walks of life. It also includes the work of the Canadian Heraldic Authority in creating coats of arms and other national emblems.
VISIT THE RESIDENCE AND TOUR THE GROUNDS

Start your visit at the Visitor Centre to learn about the role and responsibilities of the governor general, as well as the history of Rideau Hall, through an interactive exhibit, and where you can browse through the gift shop for Canadian souvenirs.
Take a tour of the ceremonial rooms, where Canadians are honoured and dignitaries are welcomed. Guided tours are free of charge and are also offered on statutory holidays.
Stroll through the grounds of Rideau Hall at your leisure and explore the paths along the flowerbeds and gardens of this green oasis in the city. Bring a picnic and enjoy the play structure with your children.
