Brookfield Investments Corporation Announces First Quarter Financial Results
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/30/12 -- Brookfield Investments Corporation (TSX VENTURE: BRN.PR.A) reported net loss of $3 million or $0.05 per common share for the three months ended March 31, 2012 compared with net income of $47 million or $1.02 per common share for the same period in 2011. The net loss in the current period is the result of the company's share of an impairment of a loan held within Brookfield Europe L.P., whereas the prior year included a higher amount of mark-to-market gains recorded on Brookfield Europe's investment in Canary Wharf.
Brookfield Investments Corporation holds investments in the property and forest products sectors, as well as a portfolio of preferred shares issued by companies within the Brookfield group. The common shares of Brookfield Investments Corporation are wholly owned by Brookfield Asset Management Inc., a global alternative asset manager with approximately $150 billion in assets under management, with a focus on property, renewable power, infrastructure and private equity assets.
