(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/30/12 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will officially open the 2012 Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference (GGCLC) on Friday, June 1, 2012, at 3 p.m., at the Westin Nova Scotian. Earlier in the morning, he will participate in a question period with students at Citadel High School, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

To officially open the 2012 GGCLC, His Excellency's keynote address will focus on 'Leadership and Sustainable Communities', the conference theme for this year. "In launching the Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference, I will be joining 230 mid-career Canadians who, for two weeks, will have a unique opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences as they strive to become better leaders," the Governor General said. "This is an incredible forum in which to broaden the perspectives of these future leaders so that the decisions they make can have a positive impact on the collective well-being of our nation."

Before officially opening the conference, His Excellency will be joined by the Honourable Darrell Dexter, Premier of Nova Scotia, and Ms. Annette Verschuren, Chair of 2012 GGCLC, to discuss leadership with students from public high schools in the Halifax region. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m., on June 1, at Citadel High School, in Halifax. The Governor General will deliver remarks before participating in a question period with the students.

The eighth edition of the GGCLC will run from June 1 to 15, 2012. The conference delegates will gather in Ottawa on June 14 and 15, where each group will report back to the Governor General and engage in a final discussion on what has been learned throughout their journey.
