Arbor Networks(R) Unique ATLAS(R) Infrastructure Will Provide Traffic Intelligence and Measurement for World IPv6 Launch
ATLAS Infrastructure Monitors 24 Tbps of Global Internet Traffic
(firmenpresse) - CHELMSFORD, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/30/12 -- Arbor Networks, Inc., a leading provider of security and network management solutions for enterprise and carrier networks, announced today that it will participate in the Internet Society's World IPv6 Launch, providing global Internet traffic intelligence and monitoring of IPv6 adoption via its ATLAS infrastructure. The data will be regularly updated on the Arbor as well on the Internet Society's beginning on June 6, 2012, the beginning of World IPv6 Launch.
"On June 6, the Internet and the world will take a giant leap in its ongoing evolution as IPv6, the next generation Internet Protocol, is being enabled and kept on by default by more than 1500 websites, including 4 of the top 5 in the world, ISPs in 22 countries, and home router manufacturers. This is a milestone for the global Internet. As the successor to the current Internet Protocol, IPv4, IPv6 is critical to the Internet's continued growth as a platform for innovation and economic development," said Phil Roberts of The Internet Society. "Arbor's ability to monitor not just the initial pop in IPv6 traffic, but adoption, performance and security trends over time is very valuable to the community at large."
Since 2007, Arbor Networks has leveraged its ATLAS Internet infrastructure to develop a . ATLAS is a collaborative effort with 120+ ISP customers who have agreed to share anonymous traffic data on an hourly basis, totaling 24 Tbps. Together with data from Arbor's dark address monitoring probes, as well as third-party and other data feeds, this unique vantage point enables Arbor to be ideally positioned to deliver intelligence about global IPv6 adoption.
Earlier this year, Arbor released its 7th annual Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report based on the data from ATLAS and customer surveys. The report data indicated a major IPv6 milestone -- for the first time, respondents to the survey reported distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on their IPv6 networks. While the frequency of attacks is relatively modest on IPv6 today, Arbor expects that accelerated adoption will be followed by an increase in the pace of attacks.
"The first DDoS attacks against IPv6 networks is in some ways a sign that the technology has arrived," said Scott Iekel Johnson, product manager at Arbor Networks. "From a security perspective, the issue of IPv6 visibility becomes even more important. Just as on IPv4 networks, it is hard to defend against what you can't see. Arbor has been early in delivering IPv6 enabled solutions and the time is now for other vendors to do the same so there is feature parity across the entire network infrastructure."
