His Excellency will Attend Discussions on Community Engagement and Service in Education at Wilfrid Laurier University
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/23/12 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will deliver a keynote address on the opening day of the 2012 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, on Saturday, May 26, 2012. During the day, he will also host the Governor General's Round Table on Community-Campus Collaboration, and attend a panel discussion on research, education and service to community presented by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). All three events will be held at Wilfrid Laurier University, in Waterloo, Ontario.

His Excellency will host a discussion on university-community engagement with stakeholders from academic and community groups. Organized in partnership with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, United Way-Centraide and ResearchImpact, the round table will encourage greater collaboration among community organizations and universities to create a smarter and more caring Canada.

The Governor General will attend a panel discussion on "Research, Education and Service to the Community: New Ideas for a World of New Demands" hosted by the CFI. Experts from CFI and from Canadian universities will investigate new models of service in Canadian universities, looking specifically at how university leaders are defining 'service' in their institutional, regional, national and global contexts.
