Berlin Marriott Announces Green Meetings and Events
(firmenpresse) - BERLIN -- (Marketwire) -- 05/23/12 -- Stepping in the direction of total environmental compatibility, one of the premier has ignited a move toward green with announcement of the Marriott's Green Meetings Concept.
An exceptional choice among business , the impressive Berlin Marriott has joined with Marriott hotels worldwide in an initiative to reduce environmental waste; and by focusing on "Green Meetings" will allow other businesses and guests to join them in making a difference. Green Meetings at the Marriott means using paper, flipcharts and note blocks created from certified forestry; pens and pencils made of recyclable and biodegradable materials, and mineral water flavored with herbs of the season and served at conferences in reusable bottles or carafes. Additionally, small sweets, usually individually packed in plastic, are instead served from practical, hygienic devices or dispensers; and this lineup of equipment includes only energy efficient audio and video devices to help defray the expense to environmental quality.
"For many, environmental protection still has a laborious, uncomfortable image, but you can achieve so much by making only a little effort -- and then everyone is prepared to contribute," explained Claudio Trübenbach, the hotel's Chief Engineer.
Trübenbach also discussed how the hotel is dedicated to using energy saving resources throughout the property: "We use almost exclusively energy saving lighting in the hotel. The new lighting concept alone saves more than five percent."
Other measures initiated include the deployment of special, highly efficient combination filters to reduce ozone, particulate matter and allergens -- a move that is a first for the German hotel industry, but especially helpful to those seeking healthy and environmentally-friendly . Water conservation at the hotel has been initiated with the installation of water-saving toilets, faucets and shower heads throughout the hotel property.
Environmental awareness is also seen in the hotel's kitchens and restaurants as specialists have developed successful techniques of harmonizing luxury cuisine with recipes for green cuisine. The hotel utilizes regional, seasonal ingredients to avoid the environmental impact of transportation, and many foods are delivered in reusable crates or in large quantities to reduce packaging. Both the hotel's kitchen and catering operations have organic certification and use organic products in the preparation of most dishes.
