CARFAX Deploys the Xsigo Data Center Fabric to Expand Bandwidth and Boost Oracle Performance
Information Provider Virtualizes Its Infrastructure, Reduces Complexity by 90%, Boosts Oracle Performance by Up to 25%
(firmenpresse) - SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/23/12 -- Xsigo Systems, Inc., the data center fabric deployment and technology leader, today announced that CARFAX, the nation's leading provider of vehicle history data, has deployed the Xsigo . CARFAX joins the growing list of enterprises worldwide replacing outdated, hard-wired switch and port technologies with to significantly increase network performance while simplifying their infrastructure.
Each day, CARFAX gathers information from 35,000 sources to maintain a comprehensive database with more 10 billion records documenting the histories of used cars and light trucks in the US and Canada. The information is available on-demand to both consumers and dealers and is maintained in a primary data center in Missouri.
CARFAX deployed the Xsigo Data Center Fabric to enable a recent migration from rack-based servers to blades in the firm's primary data center. The Xsigo Data Center Fabric provides 40Gb bandwidth to each blade, actually exceeding the bandwidth capacity of the blade itself. Without Xsigo, the blades would have had far less , thus limiting application performance.
"When we decided to migrate to server blades, we needed a solution that would ensure sufficient network and storage bandwidth to maintain peak database performance," Daniel Smith, Senior DBA at CARFAX, said. "With Xsigo, we reduced physical connectivity by 90% while actually accelerating our database performance and delivering a more responsive user experience."
In addition to the Xsigo Data Center Fabric, the CARFAX deployment also included Dell M1000 blade servers, EMC storage, virtualization software, and database software. Benefits achieved included 20% to 25% acceleration of Oracle RAC performance and a 33% reduction in data backup time.
Xsigo consolidates and virtualizes the connections from servers to networks and storage, resulting in a simpler, more easily managed connectivity environment. With Xsigo, organizations typically reduce network complexity by 70 percent, lower capital costs by 50 percent, and gain the flexibility to manage connectivity in seconds rather than requiring hours or days.
"The team at CARFAX recognized the opportunity to do more with their server resources, and arrived at a solution that both saved the company money and provided a superior user experience," said S.K. Vinod, Vice President of product management at Xsigo. "That's the beauty of virtualizing connectivity resources with Xsigo. By simplifying the infrastructure and increasing efficiency, Xsigo helps companies achieve more with the budget, space and power they have."
Xsigo Systems, Inc. is the data center fabric deployment and technology leader, with more than 250 enterprise customers and numerous patents around virtualization and fabric connections. Xsigo's hardware and software products are specifically designed to maximize the efficiency of a virtualized data center. The entire product family, including Xsigo I/O Director and the Xsigo Server Fabric, are vendor-neutral, working with existing storage, server and network equipment.
