Knovel Congratulates Recipients of the 2012 National Merit Bill Woishnis Scholarship
Scholarship Supports Education of Engineering Students
(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 05/22/12 -- , the leading provider of a Web-based application integrating technical information with analytical and search tools, today announces Aaron Schartz and Isabelle Daly as recipients of the 2012 National Merit Bill Woishnis Scholarship. The scholarship launched in 2010 to honor the life and memory of Bill Woishnis, one of Knovel's co-founders, who passed away on August 2, 2009.
New York residents Aaron Schartz, from Half Hollow Hills High School East, and Isabelle Daly, from White Plains High School, were selected for their outstanding academic achievements and leadership skills. Both students will begin undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering this Fall, Aaron at Princeton and Isabelle at Duke University.
"Isabelle and Aaron have demonstrated impressive leadership qualities that will continue to develop as they pursue engineering degrees," said Chris Forbes, president and CEO of Knovel. "The National Merit Bill Woishnis Scholarship is very competitive -- it's quite an accomplishment to stand out among other applicants, and both students were exemplary in every aspect."
The scholarship application requirements included an essay, a recommendation from a school official, a qualifying SAT score and an outstanding academic record. Both students are eligible to receive a scholarship each year, up to four, as long as they continue to show academic excellence in an engineering program.
Bill Woishnis earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with honors from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, and began his career as a plastics engineer for Hewlett-Packard in the early 1980s. A visionary entrepreneur, Bill first co-founded William Andrew Publishing in 1990 and later co-founded Knovel. Bill's innovations largely shaped today's electronic publishing industry.
