Company Offers Free Gas Price Finder Tool to Help All Massachusetts Drivers Find Lower Gas Prices
(firmenpresse) - BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/22/12 -- As many Massachusetts residents are making their travel plans for the unofficial start of summer this upcoming Memorial Day weekend, a new study has found that continued concerns over high gas prices may influence their plans. According to survey findings released today from Corporation, the flagship automobile insurance carrier of the Plymouth Rock Group of Companies, which together write and manage more than $1 billion in auto and home insurance in the Northeast, this year's increase in the price of gas has resulted in almost 9 in 10 respondents (88 percent) driving less. With gas prices currently just under $4 a gallon, the $3.50 per gallon mark was the point at which most started to drive less.
Many popular summer activities may be impacted by high gas prices. Of those surveyed who claimed the price of gas has impacted their driving decisions, 21 percent cited limiting travel for Memorial Day as a potential way to counter price hikes and 69 percent noted they might avoid traveling to popular summer destinations, like Cape Cod. In an effort to drive less, most (75 percent) are likely to reduce time spent on vacation and recreational activities.
To combat the effects of high gas prices, many Massachusetts drivers are seeking alternatives. In fact, over a quarter of respondents (28 percent) will resort to walking and a fifth (20 percent) will opt for public transportation. Only 11 percent of respondents cited car pooling as an alternative they will consider.

Plymouth Rock worked with the Research & Analytics Group of Datamatics Global Service Ltd., to conduct this study to understand how increases in gas prices influence driving decisions. A sample of 531 respondents uniformly divided by age and gender across all the counties in Massachusetts were administered an online survey in May 2012 asking them what they thought about the increase in gas prices and what they would they do to counter it. Over 85 percent of the respondents in the sample used regular grade gas to fill their fuel tanks. Only 8 percent of the respondents owned a hybrid car and were shielded from gas price hikes.
