Minister Raitt Congratulates the Port of Halifax and the Council of the International Longshoremen's Association Locals on Reaching a New Agreement
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/17/12 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, today congratulated the Halifax Employers Association, acting on behalf of the Port of Halifax, and the Council of the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) Locals for successfully reaching a collective agreement.
"I commend both the Halifax Employers Association, acting on behalf of the Port of Halifax, and the Council of ILA Locals for working together to reach a new collective agreement," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations benefit the economic prosperity and security of Canadians."
Negotiated agreements are in the best interest of the organization, employees, businesses and the Canadian economy. This agreement, representing units of 66 checkers, 307 longshoremen and 53 gear repair and maintenance personnel in the longshoring industry at the Port of Halifax, was reached with the assistance of a mediator from the Government of Canada's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
