AMJ Campbell Provides Major Support for Cancer Fundraiser
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/17/12 -- AMJ Campbell has helped make Dancers for Cancer charity events possible since they began five years ago. Through contributions and volunteer support, AMJ Campbell has been there every step of the way. In fact, this year's Dancers for Cancer Charity Gala held on May 9th was co-chaired by two AMJ Campbell employees, Jenny Bowser and Gloria Kim.
This year's Charity Gala was held to a sold out audience at The Grand Banking Hall at One King West. The evening of dancing, dining and encouragement raised $50,000 for SickKids Hospital, exceeding the organizers' expectations. "It couldn't have been done without the willingness and support of so many generous people who volunteered their time, talents and resources," said Jenny Bowser, Founder and Co-Chair. The event featured the talents of students from Georgetown's Center Stage School of the Arts and McGinley Academy of Irish Dance. The emcee, sportscaster Rod Black, kept the audience entertained with quick wit and humor, while Canadian Hockey icon Paul Henderson, who personally battled with leukemia, added inspirational words during his keynote address. Speaker Jessica Theocharides, SickKids patient ambassador, added to the evening by sharing how SickKids helped her through her struggle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) -- she is now in remission.
Dancers for Cancer was founded just five years ago as the idea of two Georgetown, Ontario high school students, Jenny Bowser and Melanie Chin. Founder and Co-Chair Jenny Bowser, whose motivation came after the loss of her aunt to cancer, said that instead of feeling sorry for herself, she felt she could do something about it, and help the cause. And so, Dancers for Cancer has transformed from a simple recital into annual activities featuring dance competitions, a formal charity gala and more with all proceeds going towards cancer research and cancer assistance services.
Bowser is proud to have AMJ Campbell and its employees as a part of this fundraiser. The people at AMJ Campbell have shown their continued support as volunteers for the fundraising events each year, and the business leaders at AMJ have provided guidance to the fundraiser co-chairs, Bowser and Kim. AMJ Campbell and its franchisees have been in attendance throughout the years of performances, as well. Bowser hopes to host this event each year and appreciates the continued support from so many.
