Minister Toews Returns From United Kingdom Public Safety Cooperation Discussions
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/15/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, returned today from the United Kingdom, where he met with senior officials to discuss public safety and security matters of mutual interest. He also took part in celebrations to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
"Our Government is committed to keeping our streets and communities safe," said Minister Toews. "Canada's safety and security is closely intertwined with global security and stability, which requires us to build and nurture strong partnerships with our allies around the world."
During his trip, Minister Toews had the opportunity to meet with several ministers and senior UK officials to discuss public safety cooperation, including ongoing efforts towards countering terrorism and violent extremism. Minister Toews was also able to discuss 2012 Summer Olympic Games security, and to share experiences based on Canada's successful hosting of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
Canada and the UK share a long history, and will continue to work and cooperate closely together on many fronts. Visits like this help to strengthen and deepen our understanding of new security threats and how best to address them.
