SoundCure Announces Publication of Clinical Tinnitus Study Results
Novel Treatment Sounds Used to Address Patients' Ringing in the Ears
(firmenpresse) - SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/15/12 -- As Tinnitus Awareness Week commences, SoundCure™ Inc., a new solution provider, today announced the recent publication of clinical study results in the Journal of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology (JARO). This clinical study titled "Temporary Suppression of Tinnitus by Modulated Sounds" describes an effective means to reduce tinnitus perception by amplitude modulated tones and concludes that "modulated sounds should be used because they may be more effective in reducing hyperactive neural activities associated with tinnitus."
The SoundCure Serenade® Tinnitus Treatment System, which was launched in March to audiologists, includes customized, amplitude modulated treatment tones within the Serenade device. The Serenade system consists of a handheld patient device to generate sound therapy, earphones, and proprietary treatment sounds known as S-Tones® which are customized to each patient and designed to address the underlying neurological cause of tinnitus. Serenade also includes more traditional sound therapy tones, making it a comprehensive sound therapy approach.
The study details the results of the clinical trial conducted independently at the University of California, Irvine. Highlights of the study include the following:
S-Tones are four times more likely to provide relief than white noise
35% of patients experienced 70% or better reduction in tinnitus perception; 35% experienced 30-50% reduction; 30% saw less than 30% reduction. No adverse events were reported.
Tinnitus, or "," affects approximately 10% of U.S. adults and an estimated 260 million people globally. It can be extremely debilitating, leading to depression and difficulty sleeping or concentrating. It is most often related to hearing loss, especially that caused by noise damage.
