The first international VDI conference "Charging Infrastructure and Technology in Electromobility" in Wiesbaden, Germany on the 4th and 5th July 2012 presents different charging models for electric cars

(PresseBox) - Electromobility should play a major part in shaping the future but a widespread expansion of electric vehicles into everyday life is still being held back not only by battery technology but above all by the absence of a charging station infrastructure. The target is short charging durations, long ranges and full-coverage access to charging facilities. The first international VDI conference 'Charging Infrastructure and Technology in Electromobility' in Wiesbaden, Germany on the 4th and 5th July 2012 tackles these aspects. It will be held in the English language and provide an overview of current standards in the electromobility field and of data communication during the charging process.
With Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Georg Herzog of the Department of Energy Conversion of the Technical University of Munich as chairman, experts from science and engineering will discuss current challenges in network integration and rapid-charging concepts.
The program covers, for example, future mobility requirements and application concepts, which are not only oriented towards the needs of the consumers but also make economic sense. Speakers on these topics include Alliander, Daimler and Fortum New Business as well as Total.
Conductix Wampfler describes how inductive charging technology can be standardized internationally and implemented in practice. Conductive charging and the possibilities of rapid charging and combined charging are discussed by experts from, for example, Renault, ESB ecars and the Ford Research Center. Finally the conference focuses on requirements relating to standardized communication and also on questions regarding electrical and electromagnetic safety during charging. BMW, Bender and IAV among others examine the current state of the art.
The international VDI conference is directed at managers and specialists from automobile manufacturers, suppliers and component vendors as well as makers of batteries and charging stations.

Before the start of the international conference itself, attendees and speakers can get an overview of existing standards and current efforts at standardization in the environment of the charging interface. The opening event, 'Standards for Electromobility', which can be booked separately, is held on 3rd July 2012 in Wiesbaden as well.
