Dr. Nicholas Roquet Appointed Quebec Representative to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/09/12 -- Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, the Honourable Peter Kent, today announced the appointment of Dr. Nicholas Roquet as the Quebec representative to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada (HSMBC).
"I am pleased to appoint Dr. Roquet as Quebec's representative on the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada," said Minister Kent. "His practical knowledge and experience with heritage and historic sites and buildings will be an extremely valuable asset for the Board in its work."
Established in 1919 and supported by Parks Canada, the HSMBC advises the Minister of the Environment on the designation of places, people and events of national historic significance. Together with Parks Canada, it ensures that these subjects of national historic significance are recognized appropriately, both within Canada and abroad.
"It is an honour to be appointed as Quebec's representative to the Historic Sites and Monument Board of Canada," said Dr. Roquet. "It will be a great pleasure for me to help promote the history and heritage of our country."
A resident of the city of Quebec, Mr. Roquet will serve on the HSMBC for a term of five years. He is well qualified to sit on the HSMBC given his strong credentials as an architect, a university professor and an urban designer. Dr. Roquet has an M.A. in built heritage from Universite de Montreal and a PhD in history and theory of architecture from McGill University in Quebec. A report on heritage lighthouses in the province of Quebec that he co-wrote was recently published. During his 20-year career in architecture, he contributed to many projects related to heritage and historic sites in the cities of Quebec and Montreal. His work has been often recognized with prizes and distinctions in Canada and abroad.
