AMAPCEO Prepares for Bargaining With the Ontario Public Service Employer With New Ad Campaign and Website
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/08/12 -- AMAPCEO (the Association of Management, Administrative and Professional Crown Employees of Ontario), launched a and advertising campaign this morning, in preparation for bargaining in its largest unit.
The Association represents nearly 12000 professional workers in the OPS, in jobs ranging from policy analysts to economists, veterinarians, and food scientists. Their contract expired on March 31.
According to AMAPCEO President Gary Gannage, the campaign slogan "It's Time" was chosen for two reasons: "It's Time" speaks both to our members, and to the Employer. To the Employer, we say, it's time for you to follow through on your longstanding commitment to our Job Evaluation project, and to restore integrity and respect to labour relations in the OPS. To our members, we are saying that "It's Time" for you to take action to protect your terms and conditions of employment."
AMAPCEO anticipates that this will be the most difficult round of bargaining in its history. The employer has made its intended aggression very clear, both through its public bargaining with other groups, and through its communications with AMAPCEO. The Employer has demanded that, for the first time in a decade, the parties negotiate an Essential Services Agreement, a clear signal that the Employer anticipates that lockout or unilateral imposition of a collective agreement is a likely outcome.
AMAPCEO's campaign started with billboard advertisements around Queen's Park and the launch of a new website at . The ads feature the slogans "It's Time for Action", "It's Time for Equity" and "It's Time for Fairness". The campaign website includes tools to take action, downloadable items including iPhone and Blackberry backdrops, screensavers, and posters, as well as a detailed introduction to the collective bargaining process.
Gannage explained that this will be the largest campaign AMAPCEO has ever run. "We are devoting more resources, in terms of staff and activist time, and money, than we ever have before." Throughout the coming months AMAPCEO will be advertising, organizing, and holding events and meetings in workplaces and across the province.
According to Gannage, the campaign is designed to show the OPS Employer that, while AMAPCEO is prepared to be reasonable and is committed to its problem-solving approach to labour relations, they are prepared to defend themselves. "The employees we represent are reasonable people, and they understand the fiscal situation. But they will not be bullied into accepting massive concessions by an Employer that has all the power. They expect their bargaining agent to provide some balance."
