Minister Raitt Congratulates Acadian Coach Lines LP and the ATU for Reaching an Agreement
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/07/12 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Labour, applauded Acadian Coach Lines LP / Groupe Orleans Express, Moncton, New Brunswick and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Local 1229, for ratifying a new collective agreement.
"I commend Acadian Coach Lines LP and the ATU, Local 1229, for reaching a negotiated agreement," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations benefit our country's economic prosperity and the economic security of Canadians."
Acadian Coach Lines LP operates inter-urban bus services throughout the Maritimes, offering connections to other destinations through the province of Quebec. Local 1229 of the ATU represents a unit of 59 bus drivers, mechanics, maintenance employees and customer service representatives based in Fredericton, Moncton, Saint John and Charlottetown. The previous collective agreement expired on December 31, 2010.
The agreement was reached with the assistance of a mediator from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
