Ethics and Leadership, Ethics and Energy, and Ethics and the Voluntary Sector
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/07/12 -- Between May 9 and May 12, over 150 people from the private, public, voluntary and academic sectors, drawn from across Canada, will gather at the University of Calgary to discuss and debate the role of ethics in bridging the trust gap that is eroding the confidence of Canadians in the ability of their leaders, particularly in the energy sector, to resolve pressing issues fairly and creatively.
The (CBERN) Conference events will launch Wednesday, May 9 with a workshop on "", a first of its kind, in Calgary and Canada. The workshop is organized in cooperation with the , Mount Royal University and the .
A runs throughout the conference. The program will provide opportunities to support the next generation of Canadian business ethics researchers and practitioner-scholars with research and professional development workshops and networking opportunities.
A key note Public Address will be delivered by Mac Van Wielingen, Founder, Co-Chairman and Director of on Wednesday at 7:30pm (MDT) at the University of Calgary Dining Centre. The Address will focus on leadership and ethics, drawing upon Mr. Van Wielingen's experience in both the investment business and the energy sector. The event is open to the public and will be broadcast online at . Registration is requested but not required .
"Trust is built on ethical pillars," said Dr. Wesley Cragg, Director of the Canadian Business Ethics Research Network. "Mac Van Wielingen's address will set the stage for a one and a half day discussion of the ethical values on which trust is built. There are few topics that are more important if Canadians are to resolve development issues around energy in the 21st century."
Thursday and Friday morning will see expert panels initiate dialogue and conversations on the three related themes of: Leadership and Ethics; Ethics and Energy; and Leadership Ethics and Energy. Each panel will feature public, private, voluntary and academic experts drawn from across the energy spectrum: oil and gas, renewables and nuclear.
The purpose of the conference is to initiate dialogue around energy development in Canada, identify research gaps, form research and research user networks on energy development and report on the values identified by participants needed to lay the foundations for creative and ethical strategic planning and public policy development in energy and related fields.
CBERN mobilizes and profiles Canada's rich pool of business ethics expertise across disciplines and sectors. CBERN members come from a variety of backgrounds including academic, business, government, civil society, NGO, consultant and First Nations. CBERN supports strategic knowledge mobilization through a grant from the (SSHRC), private funding initiatives and creative partnerships. CBERN crosses academic disciplines and economic sectors, promoting research with impact in the Canadian context and internationally.
