Harvest Automation Adds Russ Wilcox as Independent Board Member
(firmenpresse) - BILLERICA, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/03/12 -- Harvest Automation Inc., an innovator and manufacturer of practical robots for Agriculture, announced today that Russ Wilcox has joined the company's Board as an Independent Director. Wilcox is a co-founder and past CEO of E Ink Corporation, a pivotal contributor to the creation of the multi-billion dollar e-reader industry.
"Russ brings tremendous skills and experience in building a world class company while at the same time creating an entirely new technology space. As Harvest moves from a focus on developing its first product to scaling the business, Russ will be a huge asset for Harvest. We are very pleased to welcome him to our growing team of technologists and investors who share the vision of transforming the world of manual labor with the smart application of practical robotics," said Charles Grinnell, CEO of Harvest Automation.
"In this day and age, why should we be faced with the challenges of compelling human beings to perform back-breaking drudgery that no one wants to do? Harvest Automation's smart little robots can happily do jobs involving physically demanding, highly repetitive work, in a cost effective and scalable offering," said Wilcox, adding, "This is an exciting time to join the Board of Directors. Harvest is poised to launch to its first market; nursery and greenhouse growers -- an overlooked niche with giant potential. And they have a creative team that can expand from there... to save vertebrae everywhere."
Russ Wilcox co-founded E Ink Corporation in 1997 to launch an electronic paper display technology invented at the MIT Media Lab. As CEO he led the company through six years of rapid growth from $1 million to $160 million in revenue leading to its sale for $450 million in 2009. Under his leadership E Ink scaled up its processes and shipped tens of millions of displays for popular eBook devices such as the Amazon Kindle, SONY Reader, and B&N Nook. Russ graduated with honors from Harvard College and was a Baker Scholar at the Harvard Business School and is a co-inventor of twenty-five issued U.S. patents. He is a Mass High-Tech All-Star and Ernst & Young New England Entrepreneur of the Year.
