Labour Minister Appoints Arbitrator in Dispute Between Air Canada and the Air Canada Pilots Association
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/02/12 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, has today appointed Mr. Douglas Stanley as the arbitrator in the dispute between Air Canada and the Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA).
"The appointment of an arbitrator is a key step in resolving this labour dispute," said Minister Raitt. "I urge the parties to work together and extend their full cooperation to Mr. Stanley."
Mr. Stanley was suggested as a candidate by both Air Canada and the ACPA. Mr. Stanley will render a decision on the final offers presented by the parties.
"Our government is focused on protecting the economy and jobs, and that is why we took decisive action to protect Canadians," said Minister Raitt.
Mr. Stanley has been practicing law since 1974 and has also taught law at the University of New Brunswick. He is well versed in labour relations issues, having held positions as both New Brunswick's Deputy Minister of Labour and CEO of WorkSafe New Brunswick. Throughout his career, Mr. Stanley has helped parties find resolution as a qualified arbitrator and mediator.
