Life Healing Center Announces Exciting Program Changes: New Clinical and Program Directors, Revamped Sexual Addiction and Trauma Treatment Program

ID: 1109703

(firmenpresse) - SANTA FE, NM -- (Marketwire) -- 05/02/12 -- Life Healing Center, a comprehensive mental health and addiction treatment facility located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, has announced the hiring of a new Clinical Director, Dr. Kenneth M. Adams, Ph.D., CSAT, and a new Program Director, Russell Forrest, MA, CSAT, ICADC. In addition, the program has announced major enhancements to its internationally recognized Sexual Addiction and Trauma Treatment Program.

"I am tremendously excited at the prospect of program enhancements that will occur with Dr. Ken Adams as Clinical Director and Russell Forrest as Program Director," said Mary Young, Executive Director of Life Healing Center. "To have two individuals of such experience and stature join our program is to know that the already excellent treatment that occurs here every day is only going to get better and better."

Kenneth M. Adams, Ph.D., CSAT, is a licensed psychologist. In addition to his new role with Life Healing Center, Dr. Adams concurrently has his own clinical practice, Kenneth M. Adams and Associates, in suburban Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Adams is a national lecturer, workshop leader and consultant in the areas of child abuse, dysfunctional family systems and sex addiction. He is the author of Silently Seduced, When He's Married to Mom, numerous peer-reviewed publications, and is co-editor of Clinical Management of Sex Addiction. He is a certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), a CSAT supervisor and CSAT training facilitator, as well as an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner. Dr. Adams is a member of the American Psychological Association, Michigan Psychological Association, Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH), and International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP), as well as an advisory board member to SASH and IITAP, and an editorial board member of Sexual Addiction & Compulsivity: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention. In 2011, SASH awarded Dr. Adams the Carnes Award in recognition for his outstanding work in the field of sexual addiction and compulsivity.

"Life Healing Center was the pioneer and only provider for gender-specific treatment for women for several years and with Ken heading our clinical programming, all of our programs will benefit tremendously," said Young. Russell Forrest, MA, CSAT, ICADC, is the new Program Director for Life Healing Center. Previously, he was supervisor of Hazelden Foundation's Extended Care Program from 1984 to 2000, and a therapist in the sexual addiction program at Bellwood Health Services in Toronto, Canada. In 2003, Forrest journeyed to Canada to help launch a residential treatment program for men in Powell River, British Columbia. In addition to Big Book Study Guide, he is co-author of Childhood Sexual Abuse - A Survivor's Guide for Men. His belief that "our stories tell us what we need to do" is a cornerstone of his work.

"Under Ken and Russell's clinical leadership, our men's Sexual Integrity program will attain the same level of prominence as our women's gender specific program," commented Young.

As an outpatient therapist, Dr. Adams has referred to all of the major sexual addiction inpatient programs in the country for over 25 years, bringing unique and specific experience to his new role. This background also gives him perspective on the importance of incorporating current Life Healing Center referring therapists into a patient's treatment, viewing them as integral parts of the treatment planning process, and assuring that the intensive work is consistent with the needs of the patient as well as the goals of the referring therapist.

"I am pleased to join Life Healing Center, and we are excited to now offer expanded sexual addiction and trauma treatment services," said Dr. Adams.

The updated Sexual Addiction and Trauma Treatment Program will provide a CSAT task-based treatment approach to sexual addiction problems; intensive and extended care programs for sexual addiction; a spouse and partner outpatient intensive; a first-of-its-kind residential inpatient track specifically for spouses who have been overwhelmed and traumatized by the lies, denial of their reality, and disclosure of sexual addiction secrets; and a focus on healing the whole system by offering intensives for couples to rebuild and renew relationships and marriages following successful management of the sexual addiction.

For over two decades, Life Healing Center has offered clients an individualized treatment experience to address issues such as trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, grief/bereavement, love/sex addiction, dissociative disorders and codependency.
