Bay Area Startup Combines Music Creation With Educational Curriculum to Revolutionize Learning, Engage Students, Empower Teachers

(firmenpresse) - PLEASANTON, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/01/12 -- , the company leading the education revolution one song at a time, today announced the expansion of the revolution to Southern California with new dates for its . During this first stage of the , the KlabLab team visits classrooms to collaborate with students and teachers and create original songs based on the curriculum they're covering in class. The California leg of the tour began April 2 in San Francisco, and a national tour is planned for fall 2012.

KlabLab outfitted a tour bus as a mobile recording studio, allowing students to write, perform and record their songs with KlabLab's team of professional musicians and educators. The student-created content from the tour is posted to the KlabLab website, where people across the country can vote for their favorites. KlabLab will reward the school that creates the most popular song with a $10,000 multimedia studio to be used for ongoing creative collaboration and content production at the school. The most popular songs will be professionally produced and distributed by KlabLab this summer.

"The students we worked with in the Bay Area impressed us every day with their enthusiasm and creativity," said Doug Allen, co-founder and co-lead of KlabLab's creative production team and educational outreach. "We saw music's educational power first-hand, and we're hungry for more. I hope you're ready, SoCal -- the revolution is coming!"

The Northern California leg of the Sound of Knowledge Tour included stops at eight schools, reaching thousands of students. Students have written and performed songs on topics ranging from film history to geometry to biology. More than 100 students surveyed on the tour gave the KlabLab experience an average score of 8.9 out of 10, compared to 6.8 for a regular class experience; 88 percent said they wanted to make educational songs again.

"KlabLab is a great program, and the team's energy and experience was incredible," said Tracy Persson, a teacher at Livermore Charter School in Livermore, Calif. "My fourth-graders were so excited that they were not only singing and rapping, but dancing too! I'm going to incorporate KlabLab's methods into upcoming classes by letting the kids write and perform songs as study guides before unit tests. My students would do this every day if they could -- I can't tell you enough how excited I am about this new tool."

Upcoming Southern California dates on the Sound of Knowledge Tour include:

May 1-3, 2012 -- Marina High School -- Huntington Beach, Calif.

May 8-10, 2012 -- Huntington Beach High School -- Huntington Beach, Calif.
