Almas Jiwani President of UN Women Canada National Committee to Participate in the Millennium Kids' Roundtable in CBC-Context With Lorna Dueck's Boardroom
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 04/27/12 -- Almas Jiwani, President of UN Women Canada National Committee will participate along with Tony Blair Faith Foundation-Kate Millar, Faiths Act Fellowship Manager and other passionate leaders and influencers from 30 diverse organizations in the first Millennium Kids' Roundtable on April 30, 2012. The roundtable will be an opportunity for an open dialogue about the Millennium Kids' Action Plan 2012-2013 in CBC-Context with Lorna Dueck's Boardroom, in addition to brainstorming solutions to fulfilling Canada's commitment to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs.)
"I am thrilled to be part of this outstanding group of thought leaders to discuss how Canadian youth will catalyze Canada's fulfillment to the promise made by Millennium Kids' by the 2015 deadline," says Jiwani. "There is a big job to be done in fulfilling Canada's commitment to the MDGs, but if we coordinate our efforts, what a difference we will make" she adds.
"Millennium Kids shares a belief with UN Women Canada and their president, Almas Jiwani, that opening the eyes of the next generation to extreme poverty will produce action. As youth are engaged the whole country awakens to what is possible in the three years remaining for our Millennium Development Goals. 193 prime ministers, presidents and kings promised their countries would spare no effort to fulfill the eight MDGs by 2015. Millennium Kids are calling their nation to fulfill this promise," says Sara Hildebrand, founder and director of Millennium Kids.
The spokes-youth of the Millennium Kids movement are every youth born in the year 2000, the year of the Millennium Declaration (the basis of the MDGs.)Their lives provide a measuring stick for the progress of 193 nations pursuing the MDGs.
"Ultimately, renowned artists, athletes and advocates will join together with thousands of Millennium Kids to share stories of hope and create change through story, multimedia, music and drama at the Millennium Kids Unite Toronto event. These celebrations will remind global leaders of the public support that exists for the bold decisions now needed," adds Hildebrand.
The participants of the Roundtable include leaders and influencers from school boards, youth and other organizations, faith communities, media and the arts. The meeting will take from 2pm-4pm at the CBC Building in Toronto. In a 21st century-style referendum, Millennium Kids are asking Canadians to download their anthem and cast a vote via iTunes in favour of fulfilling the MDGs by 2015.
