(firmenpresse) - PRINCE GEORGE, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/26/12 -- Two donation funds have been set up to help Lakeland Mills employees and their families impacted by the tragedy at the company's sawmill on April 23.

The Prince George Community Foundation has set up an account into which donations can be made. They did so after being approached by a group of small business owners in Prince George asking for help to establish a process to take donations from the many people wanting to help.

Donations can be made with credit card on the Prince George Community Foundation's website (go to and click the "Donate Now" button). Cheques or money orders can also be made out to the Prince George Community Foundation, with a note directing the funds to the Lakeland Fire Assistance Fund (tax receipts will be issued by the Prince George Community Foundation) and mailed to:

The United Steelworkers, Local 1-424, the union representing workers at Lakeland, has also set up an assistance fund. Cheques should be made out to United Steelworkers, Local 1-424, with a note directing the funds to the Lakeland Tragedy Fund. They can be mailed or dropped off at the union's Prince George office:

Both funds will be administered by an independent group that will determine how to best spend the funds raised to support the needs of the employees and families impacted by this devastating incident.

"We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from across the country," said Greg Stewart, president of Sinclar Group Forest Products. "We want to thank the people and the businesses and organizations of Prince George and across Canada who have stepped forward to help our employees in this time of grief and need."
