White Plains Introduces New Recreation Programs for Children With Special Needs
School District PTA Special Needs Committee Partners With Recreation Department to Offer Activities for Children With Disabilities
(firmenpresse) - WHITE PLAINS, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 04/23/12 -- This month the White Plains Central School District PTA Special Needs Committee is launching a new series of programs for children with special needs. The Special Needs Committee is developing and facilitating the programs through a partnership with the White Plains Recreation Department. Activities such as tennis, music, youth social night and art are being introduced during the initial launch this April.
"I'm pleased to be able to offer this programming," said White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach. "White Plains is a diverse community in every respect and we must aim to reflect that in every aspect of what we do and what we offer as a City."
"Our goal is make White Plains a better community for children with disabilities and their families," said Caroline Furry, White Plains Central School District PTA Special Needs Committee. "Children with special needs today don't have many opportunities to participate in activities outside of school. This program is a major step for these children and their families. The more children that sign up this month, the more activities we'll be able to offer in the future."
The launch of the program occurs during Autism Awareness Month, as parents and teachers across the community and country seek to bring awareness to children with special needs.
"The White Plains Recreation and Parks Dept is excited and looks forward to continuing this collaboration and building programs that enrich the lives of members of the White Plains special needs community," said Wayne Bass, Commissioner White Plains Recreation and Parks.
