Air Canada Pilots Return to Negotiations
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 04/19/12 -- Air Canada pilots are headed back to the bargaining table.
Under a protocol agreed today, negotiators for the Air Canada Pilots Association and their airline will return to talks for ten days, in an effort to hammer out a new collective agreement with the assistance of a federal arbitrator.
The federal Minister of Labour is expected to announce the appointment of the arbitrator soon and the ten-day negotiating period will commence when the arbitrator calls the parties to the bargaining table.
If a tentative agreement is reached, it will need to be ratified in a democratic vote by the pilots.
If no agreement is reached, the 90-day final-offer selection arbitration process legislated by the federal government will commence.
Both parties have agreed to a media blackout during the negotiations.
The Air Canada Pilots Association is the largest professional pilot group in Canada, representing the 3,000 pilots who operate Air Canada's mainline fleet.
