Maria Montessori International Academy Student Wins 2nd Place in Local Chess Tournament
(firmenpresse) - ZIONSVILLE, IN -- (Marketwire) -- 04/10/12 -- Fifty students participated in the chess tournament in March. Among the 50 students, Parth Patki, a third year student at , placed second. Patki had been playing chess for two years before entering the tournament.
Vivian Cain, executive director of Maria Montessori International Academy, addressed the importance of students learning chess at an early age. "Maria Montessori International Academy is a global school, and we want to compete on an international level by teaching kids multiple skills including chess, foreign languages such as Spanish on a daily basis as well as exposing kids to global art and music," said Cain.
Students at Maria Montessori International Academy often participate in chess tournaments in the local area. Maria Montessori International Academy offers weekly chess instruction by Chess Master Aaron Dean through his program Learning Through Games. The program began in 1996 and teaches students traditional methods regarding chess that are fun and exciting without sacrificing educational content.
