MLB Ticket Prices Plummet Following Opening Day
(firmenpresse) - SOUTH WINDSOR, CT -- (Marketwire) -- 04/10/12 -- MLB ticket prices in the secondary ticket market dropped more than ten percent following Opening Day, from an average ticket price high of $43 the week of April 1 - 7 to an average of $38 this week. Prices reflect the average ticket price on , the second largest online ticket reseller, and are based on more than 23,000 MLB tickets sold across the country since January 1, 2012.
The drop in price was most pronounced in the AL East, where the price of Opening Day tickets for the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees surely increased the overall average ticket price.
Ticket prices in the American League East dropped from a high of $66 the first week of the year, January 1 - 7, to $50 this week. In the AL Central, the highest average ticket price came the week of January 29 - February 4 at $50, down to $39 this week. In the AL West the highest average price was $58, the week of January 22 - 28 and sit at $40 right now.
Ticket Prices in the NL are slightly lower than the American League (as seen in the following chart), but they followed a similar pattern of dropping after opening day. In the AL the highest average ticket price of $53 was seen the week of January 22 - 27, while in the NL tickets were still at their high of $47 the week before Opening Day, March 25 - 31, and have now dropped to $40. In the NL East, the highest price was $52 the week of March 25 - 31, and are now at $44; in the NL Central the high was $49 the week of March 25 - 31 and are now at $40, and in the NL West the high was $43 seen way back from the week of January 8 - 14, and the average ticket price in the NL West is now $35.
"It's quite normal to see the price of baseball tickets drop following Opening Day, when the average ticket price can be more than double what fans are willing to spend the rest of the year," stated Andres Hidalgo, Media Relations, Ticket Liquidator.
