Have an Egg-cellent Family Easter-Without Cracking the Bank
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 04/04/12 -- Children across the UK will feel austerity bite their holiday plans this Easter as household budgets are slashed due to the rising cost of living. Parents feeling the pinch will be forking out on average GBP 176.81 to keep their children entertained this Easter break, while this time last year they splurged on average GBP 387.86 to keep their little darlings out of mischief.
Research conducted by Travelodge among 5,000 British parents found that over a third (37%) of British parents find it very stressful keeping their children entertained over the Easter holidays due to rising costs. What's more, over 25% of mums surveyed reported that they are put under extreme pressure by other mothers trying to out-do each other to ensure their children have an action packed time whilst off school.
To that end, parents are trying hard to think of fun and varied ways to keep the children entertained without breaking the bank. 36% of British families surveyed revealed that for the last couple of months they have been scouring newspapers and websites for money off vouchers to help run their household budget during this Easter break. A fifth of parents have made this into an activity in itself, and have got their kids searching for money off coupons too.
To avoid the expense of purchasing new toys, games and DVD's for their children over the Easter holidays, a third of parents will be teaching their children to bake; over a quarter (26%) will be teaching arts and crafts in order to keep their children entertained, and 80% of parents stated they would be buying Easter eggs for their children, spending on average GBP 17.20.
One thing of which children can be certain is that they will be spending more quality time with their parents this Easter break. Over half of the parents surveyed reported they are taking time off work during the Easter holidays to look after their children in order to avoid childcare and holiday club costs.
There are plenty of activities that parents can look to do with their children, such as visiting museums - and there are lots of in London, for example, so that with a one night stay, children can enjoy lots of the free museums in the capital. There are also lots of across the UK so that parents can take their children on numerous short, inexpensive trips, rather than a long, more expensive foreign holiday.
