Government Implements One of Many Red Tape Reduction Measures

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 04/03/12 -- The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced today that the "One-for-One" Rule has now taken effect as of April 1st, marking the implementation of one of many actions to reduce the burden of red tape for businesses.

This action is being taken as part of the Government's response to the .

"We heard from businesses and Canadians across the country on what we can do to make it easier for them to deal with government," Minister Clement said. "Now we are acting on those recommendations."

The "One-for-One" Rule will reduce the time and resources businesses spend to comply with government regulations. It will do this by requiring regulators to offset an administrative burden of equal value each time they impose a new one.

By reducing red tape like this, the Government is enabling business to focus on innovation and creating jobs which contribute to the economic recovery. This can be achieved while ensuring Canadians continue to enjoy what they have always received - high quality regulations that protect their health, safety and security as well as the environment and the economy.

"This red tape reduction measure, the first of many to come, will help businesses focus on what they do best: creating jobs and growth in our country. By cutting red tape we help businesses invest in productivity," said Minister Clement.

Created through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Commission, chaired by the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism, examined ways to spur job creation and economic growth through the elimination of unnecessary red tape. It issued its Recommendations Report in January 2012.
