Decorators' Showhouse to Sell at Auction
(firmenpresse) - BIRMINGHAM, AL -- (Marketwire) -- 04/03/12 -- When retired Birmingham businessman Earl Bryant decided it was time to raise the profile of his Vestavia Hills home, he hit on a novel idea: Allowing use of the home for the 2012 Decorators' Showhouse and auctioning it near the end of the period it is on display.

"The opportunity came up to allow use of our home as the 2012 Decorators' Showhouse, and that's the highest profile one can achieve. We felt that combining that with the upcoming auction would attract the attention we need to have a successful auction," said Bryant. "They're expecting some 5,000 people to come through the home when it opens beginning April 21, and that will be an enormous benefit for the Alabama Symphony Orchestra," said Bryant.
The Decorators' Showhouse is an annual event sponsored by the Symphonic Volunteer Council as a major fundraiser for the symphony. Leading interior designers have combined their talents, each taking responsibility for a different room in what also serves as a showcase for their work.
"I believe this is the first time a Decorators' Showhouse has been sold at auction. The market for high-end homes has been soft for six or seven years, and there are a lot of homes competing for attention. It's hard to imagine a home that has benefited from so much interior design expertise," said Dewey Jacobs, president of the auction company.
The home itself is a six-bedroom, seven-bath custom home with such high-end touches as a 35-foot waterfall and custom landscaping, a wine cellar/safe room, an opulent master suite with its own private patio, and an indoor gymnasium with a basketball court and 22-foot climbing wall.
