Russell Indexes: Russell Developed Europe Dynamic Index Returned +16.6% YTD as of March 27th

The Russell Developed Europe Dynamic Index returned +16.6% year-to-date as of March 27th, outperforming the Russell Developed Europe Index (+10.4%) and the Russell Developed Europe Defensive Index (+6.6%).
This represents an about-face from the full-year 2011, in which the Russell Developed Europe Dynamic Index returned (-21.6%), underperforming the Russell Developed Europe Index (-8.7%) and the Russell Developed Europe Defensive Index (+1.3%).
"The widely reported 'risk on' nature of current European markets are reflected in the much higher returns of the Russell Developed Europe Dynamic Index over the Russell Europe Defensive Index so far this year," said Nick Spencer, director of consulting with Russell Investments Europe. "Following the nearly 23% difference in favor of the Defensive Index last year, these returns help illustrate the importance of stability factors in equity returns. We have found that active managers, and institutional portfolios more generally, have a significant, systemic overweight to Dynamic stocks. The Russell Stability Indexes, which include the Defensive and Dynamic Indexes, illustrate a new dimension of equity returns which can help institutions understand and potentially address some of these underlying portfolio biases."
The Russell Global Index includes more than 10,000 securities in 48 countries and covers 98% of the investable global market. All securities in the index are classified according to size, region, country and sector. Daily Returns for the main components are available here:
