Seniors get nothing. Younger Canadians shafted by OAS changes
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/29/12 -- Today's budget tabled by Finance Minister Flaherty confirmed the worst for our children and grandchildren. The OAS will be delayed until age 67 for most of them. The government then boasts of "3 Pillars of the Retirement Income System". Now they have chiseled away part of the OAS pillar.
"Ever tried to sit on a three legged chair after one of them has been tampered with?" asks President Barry Thorsteinson of The National Pensioner and Senior Citizens Federation (NPSCF).
This government has attacked the Retirement Security of future generations as it looks years ahead for dollars to finance other priorities. There was nothing for seniors, not even a discarded penny for the poorest living in poverty.
"We look forward to seeing this ill advised choice of spending priorities set aside in the next election" said Thorsteinson.
The NPSCF is Canada's only senior's federation that holds an annual convention with open and democratic debate. We are a non-profit organization.
