Economic Action Plan 2012 to Help Canadian Businesses Become Innovation Leaders
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/27/12 -- The success of Ottawa's Valydate Inc. and the government's plan for innovation in Economic Action Plan 2012 were highlighted today by the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology.
"Innovation is about taking ideas to market and solving problems," said Minister of State Goodyear. "We want the private sector to do what it does best, which is to turn an idea into prosperity. Canada's long-term economic competitiveness depends on supporting innovative businesses, like Valydate, that create jobs and growth."
Increasing business investment in research and development (R&D) is crucial to Canada's long-term competitiveness, and programs such as the National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) are helping businesses innovate. An NRC-IRAP funding recipient, Valydate, founded in 2010, is an innovative, world-class company specializing in a technique that detects and corrects errors in electronic designs early in the hardware design cycle. Many world-leading companies working in the telecommunications, defence, aerospace, and medical industries use its technology to reduce their costs and shorten the time it takes to integrate their products into the market.
Support for science and technology (S&T) has been a government priority since 2006, as exemplified by the introduction of the S&T Strategy in 2007. Federal S&T expenditures reached nearly $11.9 billion in 2010-11.
Minister of State Goodyear noted that the government will respond to some of the recommendations of the independent expert panel that it mandated to review federal support for business R&D in Economic Action Plan 2012.
"We will act soon because we are committed to taking innovative ideas into the marketplace where they can generate jobs, growth and prosperity," said Minister of State Goodyear. "We agree with the general direction of the changes that need to be made to address Canada's business R&D challenges."
