ID: 1096461

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/26/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement after the Canada Border Services Agency today announced the removal of two individuals from Canada: Abraham Bahaty Bayavuge and Johnny Cipriano Salazar Gonzales.

Mr. Bahaty Bayavuge is inadmissible to Canada on the grounds that he is suspected of being complicit in war crimes or crimes against humanity. He was found in Ottawa in July 2011 following tips and information received from the Canadian public. Mr. Salazar Gonzales, apprehended on March 13 in Cardston, Alberta, is inadmissible because he has been convicted of an offence outside of Canada that, if committed in Canada, would constitute a Canadian offence.

"Canadians have told us they do not want to see our country as a haven for those who have committed serious crimes. With the removals of these two individuals, our Government is demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the safety and security of our communities.

We continue to send a strong message that we do not tolerate such conduct and our doors are firmly closed to those who seek to evade justice by coming to Canada."

The Government of Canada is grateful for the assistance the public is providing and ask that they continue to look at the for updates. Members of the public are reminded that they should not take action to apprehend the individuals listed on the web site. Any information on the whereabouts of these wanted individuals should be reported to the CBSA Border Watch Line at 1-888-502-9060.
