Wreaths Across America Sets 2012 Theme: "Then, Now, and Forever -- Let's Make it Personal"
Organization's New Facebook "Honor Wall" Allows Visitors to Share Personal Stories and Connect With Others Across the Country
(firmenpresse) - COLUMBIA FALLS, ME -- (Marketwire) -- 03/26/12 -- Wreaths Across America (WAA), a nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman, Morrill Worcester, in 1992, today announced its theme for 2012: "Then, Now, and Forever -- Let's Make it Personal." The theme will be central to the organization's fundraising efforts and activities leading up to National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012. On that day, WAA will place holiday wreaths at the headstones of fallen veterans at more than 700 locations worldwide.
To underscore the theme for the year, WAA created an "Honor Wall" on its official page where fans can honor a veteran or active military member by contributing personal stories, posting photos and sharing with family and friends.
"The 2012 theme is all about recognizing the stories that are a deep-rooted part of our heritage," said Karen Worcester, executive director, Wreaths Across America. "We know from listening to many families who have lost a loved one in service to our country that their biggest fear is that the sacrifices they made will be forgotten. The message we want to reinforce this year is that WAA will do all it can to ensure that doesn't happen."
2011 marked the 20-year anniversary of WAA's trip to Arlington. On Dec. 10, 2011, WAA organized the placement of nearly 90,000 remembrance wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery. The organization also coordinated 740 wreath-laying ceremonies nationwide, including 25 overseas, for a total of 325,000 donated wreaths -- the most for WAA to date.
